Eligibility to work (Type of UK Visa)

You can:

  • As a holder of a UK passport
  • As a holder of a passport from an EEC country (eg. Italy)
  • If you can prove that you had a parent or grandparent born in the UK.

(You would be eligible to have an ancestry visa which will permit you to work up to four years in the UK.)

  • As the spouse of someone who qualifies under the three categories above.
  • As a young Commonwealth citizen, aged between 17 and 30 inclusive, in the UK for a "working/holiday"

( You may stay in the UK for a maximum of two years. You must apply for the "working holiday visa" before you leave for the UK. To gain entry into the UK on a working holiday visa, the immigration officials will need to see evidence of sufficient funds to support you on arrival).

  • Work Permit.

If you do not meet the above criteria then you will be required to obtain a work permit. You would need to secure employment with a school on a long-term basis. This would be at least a term. Scholar UK would be happy to assist with this. On receipt of your work permit it is important that you obtain an entry clearance to work in the UK which is obtained from the UK High Commission in Wellington
